Gil de Siloe: Saint James the Greater
The Cloisters, New York, 1489-93

Feast of Saint James, Apostle

Father, your holy people are a people on pilgrimage, always called to leave what they are in order to become something new. Abraham was called forth out of Mesopotamia to become the father of many believers. Moses and the Israelites were called out of physical slavery in Egypt and selfish rebellion in the desert. May we too, Father, be ready to leave everything we have become up until this very moment that we may share ever more fully in your life, a challenge that is then renewed in every moment forever and ever.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
